About The Mitten Mile

The Mitten Mile is a free weekday email and website covering what's getting built, approved, and sold across Michigan, and the rules that come with it.

Why it exists

The decisions that shape Michigan real estate and business are public, but they’re scattered across hundreds of city council agendas, planning commission packets, state incentive approvals, and county records. Most people who need that information don’t have time to read it. We do, and we send you the part that matters in about five minutes.

We cover the whole state, not one city. We write for developers, brokers, lenders, landlords, investors, and business owners, and for anyone curious about how places in Michigan change.

The editor

Mohammed Bouzeid

Mohammed Bouzeid is the founder and editor of The Mitten Mile. He is a third-year student at Wayne State University Law School, where he serves as a Senior Editor of the Wayne Law Review, and a graduate of the University of Michigan. He has worked on real estate, business, and regulatory matters as a law clerk and summer associate at Michigan law practices. He lives in metro Detroit.

Mohammed is not a licensed attorney, and The Mitten Mile does not give legal advice. We can’t answer questions about your specific situation, and nothing you send us creates an attorney-client relationship.

Our standards

We link to the record. Every item in the newsletter points to its original source: an agenda, a minutes packet, a state approval, a court filing, a deed, or a named news report. If we can’t find the record, we say so.

We separate news from everything else. Reporting is labeled as reporting. Explainers and guides say when they were last updated. Opinion, when we run it, is labeled as opinion.

Sponsors don’t buy coverage. Sponsored placements are always labeled “Sponsored” and are written separately from our reporting. Sponsors never see coverage before it’s published and can’t change it.

How we use AI tools. We use AI software to help sort public records and draft summaries. A human editor reads every item, checks it against the original source, and decides what runs. We don’t publish anything a person hasn’t checked.

We keep it general. We explain how rules work in general. We don’t tell readers what to do in their own deals, cases, or filings. When a decision matters, talk to a licensed professional.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Online, a corrected item gets a note at the bottom describing the change and the date. In the newsletter, we run the correction in the next issue. To report an error, email tips@mittenmile.com with a link to the item and the source that shows the mistake.

Ownership and funding

The Mitten Mile is independently owned and operated by its founder, Mohammed Bouzeid. It has no outside investors. The daily email is free to read. We plan to support it with clearly labeled sponsorships and, later, optional paid products. We’ll list any paid partnerships on this page.
